From the frost-prone plains of Salmanbeyli, Adana, Turkey, civil engineer and farm manager Halit Milli has safeguarded his family’s citrus and nectarine orchards with FrostBoss® Frost Fans since 2010.
“In early 2011, we were suffering significant yield losses due to frost. As an engineer, I wanted proof before investing, so I studied the technical reports from New Zealand and even tested a C49 fan in the field,” recalls Halit. “The results confirmed what was promised, consistent coverage in all directions, and protection exactly as specified.”
Between 2010 and 2011, Halit installed 11 FrostBoss® C49 fans, which now protect 78 acres of citrus. “Our orchard is rectangular, and yet even the outer corners are fully protected. We have operated without frost damage ever since.”
In addition, Halit has introduced a C59 frost fan into his nectarine orchard, the only one of its kind in Turkey. “We tested it this year for the first time and achieved excellent results with large, healthy nectarines grown in the protected plain.”
When severe frosts struck Adana in February 2025, with sub-zero temperatures and winds up to 50 km/h, Halit’s orchard endured. “Two gearboxes broke under the extreme conditions, but within an hour of calling the service team, they were on-site and had us running again within two hours. That quick response meant we survived the frost event without loss.”
Halit credits not only the technology but also the support from FrostBoss® distributor Symmetry in Turkey, who conduct thorough annual servicing, sensor checks, and keep meticulous records. “They ensure our machines are always ready. If issues arise, they resolve them immediately.”
Reflecting on more than a decade of protection, Halit highly recommends FrostBoss® Frost Fans saying “they have saved our crops year after year, and with the support team in Turkey, I know I can rely on them completely.”
